Blood Transfusion Laboratory Manager (Biomedical Scientist)

Salary: £38,890 to £44,503 pa

Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.
An opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join the management team of the Blood Sciences team at Harrogate District Hospital as the Blood Transfusion Manager. The right candidate will be a highly experienced and competent Blood Transfusion Scientist who can lead the team in striving to meet our Trust's aim of “Excellence every time”.
The department is part of our Blood Sciences Laboratory which encompasses; Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Biochemistry, Specialist Biochemistry and Point Of Care Testing. The Blood Sciences team are highly integrated and work well together with several staff trained as multidisciplinary practitioners.
The team at Harrogate is small and friendly requiring a high degree of team work and co-operation from its members so candidates should be prepared to be part of the close knit environment fostered in the department.
The role will allow for personal development and will require a considerable amount of liaison with the clinical teams served by the department. The role will encompass both technical expertise and managerial roles with a close day to day working relationship with our Transfusion Practitioners.
Following successful UKAS assessments all sections of pathology are compliant with ISO15189 standards and fully accredited. The Transfusion section is fully compliant with the requirements of the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations and was last inspected in October 2017.
The department has excellent IT systems with ICE requesting & reporting, Clinisys LabCentre LIMS, Autocard request form scanning and QPulse quality management system. As part of the wider West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) collaboration the Pathology department is currently at the tender stage of procuring a joint LIMS. The Blood Transfusion Laboratory has two Grifols Eflexis analysers.
Applications will be considered from candidates with extensive experience in Blood Transfusion, ideally with a minimum of 5 years’ experience at band 6, who have an appropriate MSC or equivalent qualification. Excellent communication skills are vital to the role along with an in depth knowledge of BSQR and Good Practice Guidelines.
The successful candidate will work a standard weekly pattern of 5 days per week Monday to Friday but may be asked to vary their hours to meet the contingencies of the service.
