PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Consulting Director's purpose is to sell, manage and deliver custom projects to clients in Manufacturing Technology, supporting the achievement of the consulting revenue target for Manufacturing Technology and Industrial. As well as delivering highly strategic projects to key clients, the successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening existing customer relationships as well as developing new ones at a global level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position of Consulting Director is one of high responsibility and accountability.

Key decisions you will be responsible for:

  • Bid/No bid: whether to proceed an opportunity to bid
    Best fit solution: design and articulate best fit solution
  • Resourcing: Formulate team resourcing by project and ensuring required levels of performance.


Other key responsibilities include:

  • Management of the centralised Financial Analysis team, including establishment, coordination, and execution of financial analysis projects across various Service Areas and Intelligence Services.
  • Development of a world-class, high-performing team of financial analysts with strong knowledge of interpreting and evaluating the financial performance of companies.

Project delivery
  • Manage custom research deliverables, delivering projects to client satisfaction
  • Good knowledge of Industrial and/or Manufacturing Technology sector
  • Achieve individual and team consulting billable utilisation targets
  • Managing projects through a distributed team of analysts and consultants to ensure that they have clear objectives and project plans, and that the team collaborates well.
  • Project management skills - strong awareness of budget, timeline and programme delivery management.

Bid Management
  • Work closely with Sales and Sr Industrial Consulting Director, to develop new business.
  • Bid management: manage the proposal and bid stages of all custom projects
  • Where necessary, manage third party sub-contractors, for example for primary research delivery

Business development
  • Building a compelling consulting proposition that builds on Omdia's reputation as a "industry thought leader".
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders from across the Informa Tech brands to support the evolution and delivery of the Industrial consulting proposition
  • With the account management team, expand Omdia's presence in key accounts by networking with research users and executives. This requires the Consulting Director to maintain a good working relationship with the Omdia account management team to proactively develop Omdia's commercial position.
  • Working with the consulting team to implement the group growth strategy. From time to time, this will require the individual to lead special projects to address specific operational issues.


Key Internal Relationships:
  • Sr Consulting Director - team leadership, project escalation, commercial updates (including pipeline mgmt.), resourcing and project design.
  • Account Manager - solution lead, sales pitch and bid management
  • Team - commercial, project and ways of working updates and strong performance management
  • Analysts - project sale and delivery


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Demonstrable experience within a market research and consultancy firm, as a Senior Manager with focus on Manufacturing Technology, Industrial and/or TMT.
  • Possess a deep understanding of industry dynamics and trends, you will most likely hold a title as a Principal or Senior Manager with demonstrable experience in leading significant & varied projects and ongoing client engagement / development
  • Experience of working with senior internal management in budget and objective setting for custom research practice
  • Ability to work with many stakeholders
  • Excellent and proven people development and management skills
  • Experience of working closely with sales teams and training them in consulting sales
  • Excellent and proven client management skills
  • Experience in running multiple consulting projects at any given time
  • Experience in running a large-scale (>£100,000) project delivery

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Practice Leader's purpose is to manage a team of 3-4 analysts as well as 3-4 team members from the RCoEs, research agenda planning, coordination of and contribution to the "W" data tools in relation to European markets, plus qualitative research on European market trends and opportunities. Oversees a team creating high-quality syndicated research deliverables and responsible for the execution of successful consulting engagements. Establishes the European Markets team as the go-to resource for clients looking to understand regional market opportunities, competitor threats, and best practices.

As Practice Leader you will ensure the delivery of the following key objectives:

  • Quarterly research databases
  • Annual proposals supporting the strategic plan for the SP Markets team
  • Oversee the delivery of research and consulting projects to time, quality, and within budget
  • Authoring and curation of strategic thought leadership deliverables
  • Lead role in complex custom projects
  • Active partnerships in the sales process; develop strategic business development initiatives; lead analyst for key accounts

  • Development of a world-class high-performing team of industry analysts with in-depth market knowledge within specialized areas of research coverage. Development, engagement, and training of colleagues.
  • Successful, on-time delivery of high-quality, highly relevant, unified datasets and differentiated syndicated research products that adhere to an established research agenda and publication schedule.
  • With the Sr. Research Director, formulation of a compelling, commercially relevant research agenda, clearly positioning the team and Omdia as the definitive source of insight in the European Service Provider Markets space.
  • Partnering with the Product Management team for client sensing, product development, and research lifecycle management. Partnering with the forecasting team to obtain their support for your best-in-class forecasts.
  • Successful, on-time execution of consulting engagements to client specifications and quality expectations including the achievement of analyst consulting utilization targets at the individual and group level.
  • Proactive engagement with clients and prospects to promote and help drive new sales opportunities and role model the desired behaviour to the sector organization. Focus on continuous improvement through regular solicitation of client and internal feedback.
  • Partnering with Research Operations for the continuing evolution and refinement of research processes and methodologies to optimize quality, timeliness, efficiency, and cost effectiveness of research execution and delivery.
  • Outreach to industry stakeholders and influencers to boost the visibility and effective reach of the team's research content, including optimal positioning of analysts as thought leaders.


Key Internal Relationships:
  • Research director, to contribute to long and short term SP Markets agendas and plans.
  • Sales team members for account planning and support for client proposals and interactions
  • Forecasting, to obtain their support for the forecasts you and peers in the SP Markets team own
  • Consulting leads to facilitate the effective scoping and successful execution of consulting engagements to client expectations
  • Marketing leads to coordinate effective industry outreach campaigns that build industry visibility and drive lead generation
  • Media and Events leads within Informa Tech to provide insightful research content and analyst expertise to their audiences while amplifying the reach of the team's research
