We are looking for qualified and well-motivated HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientists with post registration NHS experience, for two interesting and challenging positions within the Clinical Biochemistry Service at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB provides primary, community, hospital and mental health services to the 450,000 people living in three County Boroughs – Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Ideally situated between Wales’ capital city, Cardiff to the South, the coastal town, Porthcawl to the West and the stunning scenery in the Brecon Beacons National Park to the North, we operate within a vibrant community, rich with history and heritage. The Clinical Biochemistry service delivers a single integrated, high quality pathology service to the Health Board through a hub and spoke configuration at our Prince Charles Hospital and Royal Glamorgan Hospital sites, utilising common analytical platforms provided through a managed service contract with Roche Diagnostics. The department is committed to continuous development and quality improvement and you must be equally committed to these principles. We are an IBMS approved training laboratory and will offer automatic progression from band 5 to band 6 on completion of IBMS specialist portfolio.The Biochemistry department has a large test repertoire processing approximately 5 million tests per year. We are well equipped to provide an efficient high quality diagnostic service. Our equipment comprises Roche Cobas 8000 systems with pre analytics and tracking, IDS iSYS, HM-JACKarc, Tosoh G11, HPLC, Agilent LCMS, Varian AA, Siemens immulite, Roche b123 blood gas analysers and Sebia Electophoresis. As Clinical Biochemistry is a multi-site service you may be required to work at any of the hospital sites as staff rotation within the service provides the opportunity to develop more specialist skills.The posts are full time 37.5 hours per week. Once appropriately trained, participation in the 24 hour shift system will be required, for which appropriate AFC enhancements are paid. The service will also consider a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who has not yet completed the Specialist Portfolio, for development into this post. In this scenario, the post holder will be appointed at band 5.
