An opportunity has arisen for two Senior Biomedical Scientist roles within the Willink Biochemical Genetics Laboratory. The Willink Biochemical Genetics Laboratory is part of the Genomic Diagnostic Laboratory, and is closely integrated with the Willink Metabolic Clinical team, providing a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and management service to paediatric patients with rare inherited metabolic diseases. The Laboratory also has strong links with the Mark Holland Adult Metabolic Unit at Salford, serving not only the population in Manchester and the North West but also receives many referrals from throughout the UK and overseas. One Senior Biomedical Scientist will be based in the Metabolites and newborn screening section. The second Senior Biomedical Scientist will be based in Lysosomal Storage Disease section. Both sections offer a large repertoire of specialist tests using a range of technologies. Both post holders will also be expected to learn newborn screening and participate in authorisation. You are expected to have metabolic or lysosomal experience, practical experience in various chromatography techniques and manual techniques would be of advantage, but training will be provided on the job. The Willink Laboratory is undergoing transformation to further improve clinical care of metabolic patients by bringing in new technologies to enhance our test repertoire and to streamline our workflows. The successful applicant will be expected to support service development and training. Applicants should already be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist, or have relevant biochemical genetic experience completed portfolio submission and pending outcome for HCPC registration as BMS.   An accredited MSc degree in Clinical Biochemistry, or the equivalent that demonstrate knowledge in specialised biochemical genetics procedures acquired through short courses/ongoing specialist training and experience to master's level is essential. You should have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team, remain calm under pressure, and be able to take initiative and prioritise workload.
