We are seeking a motivated and forward thinking individual to support the immunology department and ensure that we continue to provide the high quality and specialist service that has been built up over the years.
The small, but busy, immunology department uses immunofluorescence, immunoblotting and ELISA techniques to identify the specificities of a range of clinically relevant autoantibodies. The department operates two Dynex DS2s, a Quantalyser 240 and a EuroblotOne autoanalyser. Approximately 250 samples are processed daily. Tests range from routine GP requests, through to more specialist work for the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. We also screen for the uncommon myositis and systemic sclerosis associated autoantibodies from other UK hospitals. As well as participation in relevant NEQAS schemes, the department works in association with the University of Bath to produce results for the European Consensus Finding Study Group which provides additional quality assurance and CPD. Due to our specialist interests, we are often asked to assist with the training of colleagues from other laboratories along with clinical staff and, as such, the successful applicant would be expected to participate in delivering this training.
