The Cellular Pathology department at ESHT is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Biomedical Scientist specialising in histopathology to join our busy, yet friendly department.
The department is UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training. We currently process approximately 29,000 histology and 2000 diagnostic cytology samples per annum. The main site, located at The Conquest Hospital, Hastings, carries out specimen dissection, centralised tissue processing, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry and diagnostic Cytology prep. The satellite site is based at Eastbourne DGH where specimen dissection occurs. Both sites offer a frozen section and immunofluorescence service. The department is part of a Managed Service Contract with modern equipment including ThermoScientific Excelsior AS Processors, ThermoScientific HM525NX Cryostat, Sakura Prisma staining machine and film coverslipper and Ventana Benchmark Ultra IHC and Special Stains. The department is actively progressing plans for the introduction of a digital pathology system.
The successful applicant must be HCPC registered and ideally have two years post registration experience in Cellular Pathology. The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine laboratory activities under the supervision of the Senior Biomedical Scientist (Section Manager) and Lead Biomedical Scientist. The post holder should have knowledge of the requirements for maintaining a quality service and adherence to ISO 15189:2012.
