Applications are invited from suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to work in the Department of Microbiology of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Candidates MUST be HCPC registered (newly qualified or with experience) as a Biomedical Scientist (this is NOT a training position). You will be motivated, highly reliable, trustworthy and able to work to tight deadlines and under extreme pressure, as well as the ability and commitment to work the shift system within the laboratory at the John Radcliffe. This involves day, evenings, nights and weekend sessions. The post is full time, average working hours over the shift pattern 37.5 hours.
The applicant will play a key role in helping to deliver and develop our comprehensive, clinical microbiology service. Our UKAS registered laboratory is well equipped, fully computerised (SunQuest) and deals with more than 640,000 requests per year, including bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, molecular and serology. With much new technology throughout the department, you will rotate throughout and learn all aspects of the diagnostic microbiology service. You will help to meet quality standards necessary for accreditation, and ensure that protocols are followed and method files maintained in a way that maintains Health, Safety and Security for individuals, the Department and the Trust. You will be expected to actively participate in the training and development of technical, medical and support staff as well as be pro-active in your own development and that of the service. As part of the OUH teaching hospital we support career development and progression through a number of routes and we encourage enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists to excel, once work based competence is achieved.
