The Royal Cornwall Hospital is the sole provider of Pathology Services for Cornwall and is currently looking for a motivated Band 5, preferably with experience, to become part of our team in the busy, professional and friendly Haematology and Blood Transfusion Departments. In the absence of suitably experienced and / or registered staff, we are willing to employ to Annexe U of Band 5, with progression to Band 5 after attainment of specific, timely goals. If there are sufficient suitable candidates the application closing date may be brought forward.
The department is in the process of reconfiguring Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology into a Blood Sciences Department and will deliver an exciting programme to re-equip the laboratory with the latest analytical equipment. Staff at all levels are involved with this and are encouraged to help develop the department into providing a cost effective, comprehensive and forward-looking service.
Haematology currently run three Advia 2120s due replacement by Alinity, coagulation on a pair of ACL TOPS 550’s and a ACL TOP 300 for routine work with extensive morphology, andrology , haemoglobinopathy screening and more specialist coagulation work also covered.
Transfusion is a busy and innovative environment at the forefront of patient blood management providing blood and blood products not only to the three acute hospitals but also to outlying sites. This progressive department uses Erytra analysers and performs most reference work in-house.
You will be expected to participate in the current rota system covering an extended working day (8am - 8pm) which allows for some flexibility in working patterns. Following suitable training a place on the out of hour’s rota will be allocated which currently attracts a seasonal payment and good paid recovery time. The current out of hour’s system is due to be replaced with a rolling shift pattern, which this post will be expected to join.
You will have access to our experienced Training Officer and further training is encouraged and supported. The position offers the opportunity to become a valued member of our friendly team in a county renowned for its beaches and stunning scenery.
This is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week but there may be part-time opportunities available.
