Overview of role: Building a portfolio of owned and partnership brands is a key growth and transformation strategy for M&S and in this role, you would be responsible for shaping and managing the delivery of the New Business Development strategy for Clothing and Home. Working with the leadership team and external consultants as required you will identify a target list of brands, conducting the relevant research and due diligence to ensure they meet the defined M&S criteria. Whether an acquisition or a third-party arrangement you will manage the initial approach building positive relationships with the Brands, the deal and contracting process and support the integration and set up in M&S ensuring clear transition to the team for the day-to-day operation. Responsibilities:• Develops the Brands strategy for M&S and updates/ refines as required.• Leads the identification and delivery of new brands/ acquisitions with broader working group through to contract signing and set up.• Completes all due diligence for new brands and acquisitions working with Finance, HR and Legal to ensure any risks are identified and mitigated.• Works with the wider Brands team to effectively plan and manage the setup, transition and integration of the Brand into M&S ensuring robust project management and governance in place.• Continually scans market to identify opportunities for acquisition or partnership, conducting research to ensure fit with M&S.• Produces Board papers and business cases as required.• Brand attraction – builds positive, engaging relationships with the Brands giving them confidence in M&S.• Build key relationships and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels to ensure initiatives are fully understood and cross functional impacts are understood and mitigated.• Line manage, coach and develop the team to support the delivery of change across the business.• Work with Finance to ensure that the costs and benefits of new brands and acquisitions are tracked, managed and realised. Skills & experience: • Previous consultancy/ strategy experience essential, ideally with experience in acquisitions/ retail.• Good understanding of Clothing & Home retailing and the market• Strong relationship skills and positive personal impact• Highly organised and previous experience at managing multiple priorities and projects.• Demonstrates an ability to work across a matrix organisation and to influence & drive progress where not accountable.• Ability to work under pressure and successfully prioritise.• Strong commercial and financial acumen – able to analyse complex data from multiple sources to drive financial and commercial decisions.• Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare Board papers, business cases and present these as required.• Confident to challenge and hold others to account for the delivery of an agreed plan, giving open and direct feedback to resolve issues in a transparent and purposeful manner.• Role models an agile and collaborative leadership style with strong networking skills.• Create a diverse, safe and inclusive environment where colleagues have a sense of belonging.
