Maintenance & Distribution Team Leader (0650)


Job Title: Maintenance and Distribution Team Leader Location: Letchworth Maintenance and Distribution Centre Grade: MG4 Reports to: Manager - Maintenance and Distribution Centre Job purpose: To lead and direct the day to day activities of the maintenance and distribution teams from our Letchworth Centre. Working with the maintenance team to deliver high quality maintenance, repairs and minor refurbishments within the train operating company estate and customer environment. This is a ‘hands on’ role with the Team Leader expected to be an active part in supporting and leading the field-based Maintenance team. To lead and provide a high quality and effective distribution process to support our station and depot operations.  Key success criteria (Expected Outcomes): Development of a safety conscious, motivated, engaged and effective workforce Produce a culture that promotes and delivers continuous improvement in the delivery of maintenance and distribution processes Offer all areas of personal management and development for the team members Provide advice, guidance and technical maintenance knowledge to ensure quality provision of work Assign jobs/works orders to effectively address reported faults and/or chosen enhancement projects Assessment, motivation, training and development staff to ensure an effective workforce capable of meeting its objectives. Identification of shortfalls in staff competency and support the delivery of a development and training plan to enhance the skillset and personal development. Work with the team to develop an intuitive nature to investigate/develop new working practices Active monitoring of team member works across the Thameslink/Great Northern premises. Completion of operational checks as well as supporting the Facilities Department in the safety and quality audits to ensure high levels of work, compliance with access permissions and to support the GTR Zero Harm aims. Deputise for the Manager of the Maintenance and Distribution Centre and assist the Manager in the preparation of periodic sub-reports, data analysis and change recommendations Carrying out of regular quality audits of vans, equipment and power tools Ensuring safety standards are met and maintained and all relevant procedures followed and that risk assessments are up to date and adhered to as part of the daily routines. Provision of information and feedback through regular team briefs and hold ‘tool box talks’ where appropriate Fulfil the role of Contractor under CDM Regulations 2015 Carrying out of new risk assessments and comply with all health and safety aspects and legislation Key results (How those expected outcomes will be achieved): Providing strong, effective and consistent leadership Accountable for providing and maintaining a safe working environment thus encouraging a culture of safe and environmentally friendly working practices Accountable for punctual distribution of all station/depot consumables in line with location requirements and in line with the agreed service level agreements Accountable for the effective management of all daily Centre activities Responsible for the health and safety of all staff based at the Centre as well as customers, visitors, contractors and field-based operatives. Provide the team with all of the necessary technical support and guidance Manage the team to ensure productivity and engagement is maximised Motivate, coach and develop all staff and trainees to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its objectives Responsible for producing man power / work load indicators to show effective deployment of resources to meet budget Carry out investigations into accidents and incidents in the workplace in accordance with the Safety and Standards Manual Ensure all relevant Group, Industry and Safety standards are met and all relevant procedures are followed, including monitoring compliance with safety systems and responsibilities, to enable the Centre to operate within legal and operational requirements Knowledge Customer focused with strong business awareness Good all-round knowledge of maintenance, distribution and supply chain needs Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and operational safety standards Good knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation Skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong leader and motivator Excellent problem-solving skills Good knowledge of maintenance and construction techniques Ability to drive continuous improvement Able to solve technical problems and to work within time constraints. Self-motivated and able to react to a wide variety of situations Outstanding organisational and prioritisation skills Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Full Driving License Experience Proven track record of managing staff both on site and in field-based roles Proven success in meeting workforce productivity targets Experience of managing within a maintenance and/or distribution environment Strong knowledge of maintenance, repair and minor works activities Experience of managing in a safety critical environment with a strong understanding of Health Safety and Environmental Legislation Proven track record in the promotion of cultural change and delivering continuous improvements Create an alert subscription based on this job
