Import Operations Manager


Job Category: Distribution Job Location: Tolworth, Greater London, United Kingdom An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading Supermarket chain that operates more than 10,000 stores across Europe and the United States. Due to business growth, the company is recruiting for an Import Operations Manager to be based at its new head office in the Surbiton district of Greater London. Main Purpose of the Role The role will be responsible for leading a quickly growing Import Logistics team, establishing and refining business processes, working closely with the Customs function and building relations with various partners and stakeholders. This will be a fast paced, dynamic position where you'll need to take a pragmatic approach to solving problems to ensure the company's imported products get on to the shelf in stores, all around the country. Please note that this role might require shift hours where you may work evening or early mornings. This will be discussed at the phone interview stage of the process. Duties & Responsibilities * Managing and guiding the day to day activities of the Import Administration / Logistics team * Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders * Building the necessary controls and processes around our SAP based Import systems * Planning and managing multiple complex projects in a deadline-driven environment * Understanding the objectives and the impact of projects on the business and driving solutions to business critical issues * Escalating key issues to leadership proactively and in a timely manner * Developing, implementing, and optimising departmental strategy, processes, systems, policies and standards * Support the Head of department and Customs Manager in building an in-house function that effectively and efficiently brings shipments into the country * Recruit, train and coach additional staff * Providing regular status update reports to Directors To Be Considered * Knowledge of import processes from third countries, in particular you will need a clear understanding of the variety of documentation needed to import food and non-food items * Extensive experience with freight forwarding / global logistics import operations ideally via sea and / or road * Powerful influencing and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with employees across all levels of the business * Strong project management skills to be able to work collaboratively with a range of business departments to complete a project successfully * In depth knowledge and experience of border processes and controls applicable to road freight and containerised shipments * Process focused with attention to detail * Comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders and suppliers at all levels * Previous management experience including recruiting and developing a team * Ability to understand and present complex issues clearly and concisely * Solid presentation skills * Strong organisational and analytical skills On Offer * A fantastic opportunity to join a highly regarded organisation, which continues to expand it's operations across the globe * Training available to succeed within your role and plenty of opportunities to progress your career * A competitive salary starting from £42,000 - £53,000 (depending on experience) with an additional non-contractual 10% London weighting and a generous holiday allowance. * Great pension scheme plus extra discounts on days out, cinema tickets and much more.
