Benefits include Free Travel on Merseyrail and Abellio Rail Group Services (where reciprocal arrangements are in place) Discounted Travel on National Rail Services, Final Salary Pension Scheme, Company Health scheme (entry level) Merseyrail are looking for an experienced rail vehicle engineer to cover a secondment on a fixed term 6 month contract. The successful candidate would form part of the Merseyrail engineering team as Fleet Standards Engineer. The successful candidate will also join us at an exciting time as we embark on the new fleet programme that will see the phase out of the existing fleet and the introduction of new Stadler trains on the Merseyrail network. This role will be responsible for providing engineering discipline and scrutiny for monitoringthe day-to-day maintenance standards of the fleet, to identify emerging safety and reliabilityissues. You will ensure all safety related incidents involving the fleet are reported andthoroughly investigated. You will develop recommendations for fleet modifications andchanges to maintenance requirements to deliver improved fleet reliability. Role responsibilityalso includes the review of proposed changes to railway standards and assessing theirimplications for the Merseyrail fleet. Reporting to Merseyrail’s Head of Fleet, you will work closely with colleagues in the fleetteam and those of the maintenance provider, supporting with engineering and regulatoryand advice. Although based at Merseyrail’s HQ in Liverpool you will also spend time atBirkenhead North Depot and, Kirkdale depot. Practical engineering experience of fleet maintenance and overhaul is a must, and a working knowledge of common railway systems e.g. AWS, TPWS, GSM-R etc. desirable.  A knowledge of rolling stock standards and approval requirements are also key skills required of this role as are sound knowledge of engineering principles and experience of engineering practices. Computer literacy and good report writing skills are important as is the ability to interpret technical documents and drawings. There is an on-call requirement for fleet issues for this post (one week in three). Successful candidates will be invited to complete an online assessment and attend interview(s).
