Safe House Advocate - Modern Slavery Response Team (Male Applicants Only) Location: Hackney Salary: £24,408 rising to £25,104 per annum, after 1 year and successful probation Expires: 31/01/2021 23:59 Post: Safe House Advocate - Modern Slavery Response Team (Male Applicants Only) Responsible to: Team Manager Location: Hackney Salary: £24,408 per year, rising to £25,104 after 1 year and successful probation Weekly contracted Hours: 39 hours per week Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time Closing date: 31 January 2021 Interview date: 3 February 2021 Please note that although the closing date for this vacancy is 31 January 2021, in order to avoid disappointment please apply at your earliest convenience as we will be interviewing candidates on a rolling basis. * About the Service/Department: Hestia is the largest provider of accommodation and outreach support to vulnerable adults who may have experienced Modern Slavery in London. ‘Trafficking’ is the movement of a person from one place to another for the purposes of exploitation. Individuals may have been forced, coerced or deceived into coming, or may have come willingly to the UK but been deceived about the nature or conditions of work they would experience on their arrival. Our safe house provision is a new and diverse aspect of our Modern Slavery Response service. The Advocate will provide a high-quality frontline service to six male victims of modern slavery. They will deliver a service to those at highest risk and work within a multi-agency framework consisting of Pan-London and local partnership responses to modern slavery. * The Role: Hold a caseload of service users, comprising three residents in a safe house, and a small number of outreach service users Please see the attached for full role responsibilities * Personal Specification: Experience of providing advice and support to vulnerable adults, including adults with mental and physical health needs Experience of working in supported accommodation and/or housing management Ability to provide information about rights, offer impartial advice and advocate effectively on behalf of clients Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and how to address them appropriately Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to cope with stressful situations and deal with emergencies in a professional manner Time management and the ability to prioritise urgent matters Organisational skills and the ability to manage a full case load of clients Able to work independently and manage your own meetings and schedules Accurately handle petty cash and record financial transactions Proficient in using a computer and working on a database Proficient in using Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office Confident in liaising with other organisations and professionals Knowledge of GDPR principles Ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage service user expectations Schedule 9 (1a) of the Equality Act 2010 applies to this position. We campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect them. This includes victims of modern slavery, women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, young care leavers and older people. From giving someone a home, to helping them to get the right mental health support, we support people at the moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond crisis. We are supported by more than 460 volunteers who provide specialist skills such as art therapy yoga, IT, gardening, cooking as well as befriending and fundraising. Holidays: 195 hours per year, plus 62.4 hours public holidays (full time equivalent). Our holiday year runs from April until March. Safeguarding: Hestia is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults, children and young people who are potentially at risk, and we therefore expect all staff and volunteers to do the same. We require all staff to undertake internal and external safeguarding training throughput their employment with Hestia. This is subject to change depending on the needs of the service
