Senior Actuarial Manager, Investments and Market Risk

As Senior Actuarial Manager for Investment & Market Risk, you will monitor and analyse the impacts on Unum UK from investment and market risk. You will facilitate and advise on the agreement and deployment of the UK investment strategy. Maintain, review and update the key policies and agreements relating to UK investments, reserving bases and the SII Internal Model. What will you bring? Responsible for ALM analysis of the UK portfolio and balance sheet, working with the Actuarial Results and Analysis Team and US Investment Team, as necessary. Responsible for facilitating the annual review and update of investment strategy, working with management and engaging with Board members, as appropriate. Serving as a key point of contact for the US Investment team, you will provide guidance to US Investment team regarding the deployment of the investment strategy and the maintenance of Investment Limits and Restrictions. Take the lead on key aspects of the agenda at the Investment Management Committee from a Unum UK perspective. Lead on the review and oversight of the Investment Management Agreement to ensure it meets the material outsource requirements. Work with the US Investment team to monitor financial markets and determine the implications from market movements. Advise others within Unum UK on the implications, including the Reporting and Financial Planning teams. Maintain Unum UK's Liquidity Plan and work with Financial Operations to monitor the emerging cash position. Provide oversight of the existing derivative contracts and assess the opportunities for further hedging, determining the potential costs and benefits. Responsible for the maintenance and oversight of reserving bases and methodologies for Investment and Market Risk under all accounting and regulatory bases. Work closely with Financial Reporting and Planning and the Chief Actuary to ensure that bases and methodologies used in actuarial valuations are appropriate. Review the results from the Group reinvestment risk model ("the SEDR model") for reasonableness Responsible for the relevant aspects of the Reserve Adequacy Study. Responsible for reviewing, maintaining and updating the methodology and assumptions for Investment and Market Risk within the Unum Ltd and Unum Solvency II Group Internal Model on behalf of the Risk Committee. Responsible for the process to maintain and update SII Technical Papers for Investment and Market Risk. Member of Expert Judgement Forum. To play a key role in communication with stakeholders. Prepare clear Board and Board Committee reports. Present at Internal Model Governance Committee, Expert Judgement Forum and other Committees, as appropriate. Be aware of and consider the implications of regulatory developments. Develop and oversee changes in response to such developments, as appropriate. Provide guidance and coaching for actuarial students and newly qualified actuaries within the team, as required. What will you bring? Qualified actuary, with significant post-qualified experience. Degree level education at grade 2:1 or above in a subject with significant. mathematical or statistical content. Experience of working with investments and investment risk. Knowledge of Solvency II and UK regulatory requirements. Detailed knowledge of the life (and/or health) insurance industry. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead relationships with other teams and produce clear and concise Board reports, ensuring excellent levels of verbal and written communication at all times. The ability to work under pressure, deliver expected results and managing competing and conflicting demands within the workload. The ability to apply new ideas and approaches to business needs, and provide external industry insights.
