Point of Care Testing resides within the Directorate Department of Biochemistry, under the Division of Laboratory Medicine and we are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientists to join our POCT team. We have opportunities at both our Oxford Road Campus and Wythenshawe sites which together with Trafford form one of the largest NHS Biochemistry Laboratories in the country. Wythenshawe site became the second laboratory in the country to achieve UKAS accreditation to POCT 22870 in September 2018 and following a resource expansion, we are looking for candidates with knowledge in POCT and an interest in quality to assist in building on our excellence and sustain and expand our accreditation across all MFT sites going forward.
The successful candidates will support the delivery and development of both new and existing POCT services across MFT ensuring that the service is safe, cost effective and complies with current POCT UKAS standards. You will join the Lead POCT Coordinator, a team of Senior and Specialist Biomedical Scientists and support staff to assist in the day to day running of POCT across the Trust. You will also be the expected to liaise with clinicians, ward managers, ward educators, link nurses and the learning and development teams to manage and monitor the POCT devices and ensure that staff training and competency are maintained in accordance with UKAS and Trust policies.
Posts will be based at the individual sites, however you will be expected to attend the other sites for meetings and service requirements.
Experience in POCT is essential and suitable candidates will require POCT/Biochemistry experience post-registration. Candidates must be in possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent experience relating to POCT to be appointed at band 6, however candidates working towards their specialist portfolio may be considered for appointment at band 5.
Although the post is core hours and does not include shift work, there may be exceptional circumstances where you may be asked to alter your working pattern as a result of an urgent service need.
The department has full HCPC training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios and full ISO 15189 accreditation and 22870 accreditation for the Wythenshawe site.
