NewPath is a social impact startup focused on increasing access to smartphones in emerging markets. We’re backed by a number of well known venture capital funds, and you will have an immediate impact within the company given the size of our team. Our team is primarily based in the UK, but we also have team members in Africa and Asia.

We are looking for a front end engineer to join the development team. You will “own” the management console and sales webapps used by us and our partners, the end user management console used by SMEs to manage the product. We use React/Redux. You will be adding features, maintaining, and driving technological change. We are looking for someone who is passionate about clean code, testing, and good software architecture. You will also be involved in developing the UI for our custom device webapps. Our project is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the front-end technology stack.

The company is currently working out of their home offices. Before Covid we had already moved to 2 days a week working remotely so were well prepared for this change. We do not see this changing in the short or medium term. This means that you will need to work from home and have a good internet connection. That said we do have a strong preference for staff who are based in the UK, and ideally in London or within commuting distance of London.

As a backend developer you will:

1. Develop and extend the reach of our existing applications for the backend platform
2. Collaborate with our product owner to deliver features and continue to optimize their performance post-release
3. Develop and produce secure, scalable solutions in accordance with architecture design standards and
4. Set code standards
5. Ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard
6. Take part in code reviews with other developers
7. Contribute to continuous improvements in the team resulting in greater efficiency, quality, and productivity
8. Comfortable in a cloud computing environment (AWS) including lambda, dynamodb, cognito, elastic search.
9. Experience with AWS
10. Experience with authentication, Security, Scaling, Billing

Requirements

What we are looking for:

1. 4+ years of experience in backend/server-side development
2. Comfortable coding in Node.js, Lambda, DynamoDb
3. Quality-led approach to development (TDD and BDD)
4. Security conscious, knowledgeable of best practices around building secure applications

Bonus points for:

1. Knowledge of serverless or FaaS paradigm and serverless frameworks
2. Comfort helping with the front end including full-stack, especially Knowledge of React / Redux framework
3. Worked as part of Agile, Scrum, XP or Kanban teams

4. Oauth v2 authentication
