NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS, collecting and processing 2 million blood donations a year. Our Healthcare Scientists provide crucial support to NHS Hospitals, processing, testing and issuing blood and its components and delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services relating to the transfusion of blood and stem cells, transplantation and tissue banking.
The Cellular and Molecular Therapies function of NHSBT comprises eight laboratories throughout the country, providing a range of life saving therapies for stem cell transplant patients and developing novel cell and gene therapies under MHRA licenses from four of these.
The development of new therapies is often undertaken in collaboration with external academic and commercial partners and we currently have an opportunity for a Cell Therapy Advanced Specialist to join us as part of an ongoing collaboration with University College London (UCL), who are developing new CAR-T cell therapies through clinical trial.
You will be working primarily within the UCL laboratory and also transfer the CAR-T technology into NHSBT laboratories e.g. in Bristol and Barnsley.

This role will involve occasional travel, possibly with overnight stays and working in NHSBT laboratories as well as occasional evening and weekend working at UCL. This is a fixed term post until 31st March 2022.
This post will attract a 20% Inner London High Cost Area Supplement of £6,890 per annum.
