Medical Training Initiative (MTI) in Anaesthetics

Description

Applications are invited for the above post to commence as soon as possible for a period of 2 years. The post-holders will have opportunity to gain experience in Obstetrics, bariatrics, Intensive care, major head and neck surgery, regional and paediatric anaesthesia depending on the successful appointee’s requirements.The department will support staff members who wish to take the final FRCA exams and will encourage the post-holder to participate in the audit, research and educational opportunities of the department. The pattern of work is typical of a District General Hospital and includes General and Bariatric Surgery, Urology, Oral and Maxillofacial Cancer Surgery, Orthopaedics and Trauma, ENT Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The successful candidate will participate in the full-shift pattern of work with the other Specialty Trainees (ST3 and above). This will cover obstetrics, intensive care or emergency theatre out of hours depending on appointee’s experience and the cover requirement.In order to be considered applicants must have at least three years’ experience in Anaesthetics.The Luton & Dunstable University NHS Hospital is a 650 bedded busy acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 310,000. The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The surrounding areas are both urban and rural, the latter including many attractive villages within easy reach of the Hospital. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is very good access to central London by road or rail and to the Midlands and the North via the M1 and A1 and London Luton Airport is within twenty minutes of the hospital.The Trust has Associate Teaching Hospital Status with UCL and The Royal Free and more recently Cambridge. We have an excellent reputation for Junior staff training. The Trust is within the East of England Postgraduate School of Anaesthesia There is a modern Medical Education and Training Centre and an active Postgraduate Teaching Programme with a well-stocked library and up-to-date computer facilities.
