Function Diageo’s Analytics & Insights team is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytics products to drive our competitive advantage and enable empirically based decisions. About the Role You will serve as an evangelist for the power of data and develop analytics products to enable decisions at Diageo. You will become an invaluable partner to your stakeholders, help catalyse their thinking about what is possible, identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to drive top line growth, personalised consumer experiences and optimises business processes. Purpose of the role: Enable Diageo to achieve our analytics ambition by visualising data into actionable insights to drive better decision making in this high profile and strategically important area of the business. Top Accountabilities Grounded in user-centred design, develop and lead data visualization professionals responsible for building and deepening a holistic view of Diageo’s consumers and operations through data and analytics; cultivate a focus on delivering insights and enabling self-service that leads to improved performance and accomplishment of strategic and/or operational goals Identify and cultivate growth opportunities across the team, coaching team members in effective visual and verbal communication, data product development, presentation, and engagement with the business Field requests, identify and collaborate on briefs, and prioritize business questions to explore leveraging visual analytics Manage a portfolio of analytics projects with multiple business stakeholders on firm deadlines Develop, manage, and communicate meaningful metrics for the portfolio of visualization products, including customer happiness and perceived value, engagement, adoption, retention, and overall contribution to the business (e.g., enablement of business objects). Effectively plan resources and deliverables to ensure visualization products help Diageo’s quarterly and annual goals Develop strong partnerships across a multi-layered, fast moving, results-driven organization Partner with business teams to translate and package analytical findings into compelling business plans for action and business impact Leverage and champion visual analytics and Diageo best practices for development and deployment, including fast, iterative experimentation and measurement, effective visual communication, onboarding with the business, and partnering with enterprise leaders Analyse and report on the business value of products and processes delivered by the team; constantly innovate to ensure the team is creating products that provide maximum value Evolve the team’s analytics capabilities while championing visualization and dashboarding best practices for development, data quality, and deployment.  Coach the team in leveraging these methods while moving fast, prototyping, and exploiting iterative development and experimentation and, finally, measuring program efficacy Coach and lead the team in solving complex problems with data and leveraging data visualization techniques to make solutions more accessible, provide logical, data-driven insights that are simple to understand for technical and non-technical users and aligned to business goals Mentor teams, individuals, and leadership on data analysis and storytelling through visualization Manage, mentor, and inspire team members; managing performance, goals, and development potential, and evaluating potential new talent Cultivate a continuous learning environment within the team and visual analytics community through persistent development of new skills, knowledge sharing through mentorships, and contributions to the analytics community Provide opportunities for team members to develop skills in emerging tools and techniques Guide team members on work, provide constructive feedback and development opportunities Coach senior and lead developers in managing projects and resources, in developing strategic solutions, and in communicating with the business Leadership Accountabilities You will be a great business partner to the senior level internal stakeholders (e.g. functional directors) as well as peers within A&I through building great relationships, supporting and challenging with skill & holding leaders to account for full delivery. Qualification: Bachelor's degree in statistics, business, economics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, research, or a related field. Experience required/Skills/capabilities/Languages 5-6 years of relevant experience in user experience, developing dashboards, data visualizations, and self-service data tools 2-3 years leading teams developing visual analytics or advanced analytics Demonstrated business acumen, with an affinity for business reporting, analysis, and working with business intelligence tools and large amounts of data Experience with analytical leadership in a matrix business environment A leader in user-centred design who can capture and communicate user needs, coach developers to promote these methods, and measure user experience for products developed while advancing the practice of continual process improvement A clear understanding of the technical landscape for Diageo’s digital products Demonstrated expertise in data acquisition, processing, storage, and modelling for visual analytics Experience developing visualizations for web and mobile devices Expertise in developing in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS; MPP and Hadoop solutions Expertise with visual analysis technologies such as Tableau, Power BI, SAS, QlikView, JavaScript, or similar tools Expert SQL skills Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets, including CSV, TXT, JSON, and XML Experience navigating complex business relationships while ensuring products are designed for optimal user experience and have measurable criteria for success Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills – a visual and verbal storyteller who can guide and develop these skills across the team Demonstrated currency in user experience and visualization best practices and evolving trends, technologies, and techniques. A flexible, dynamic personality who works well partnering/collaborating in a matrixed team environment Great advantages: Master’s degree (M.A., M.S. or MBA) in analytics, information technology, computer science, economics, statistics, engineering, research, or a related field 6+ years’ experience with demonstrated expertise in a visual analytics practice 4-5 years leading teams developing visual analytics or advanced analytics Experience delivering insights on global sales, supply chain, and operations Experience in developing an understanding of customers, competitors, and retail trends; knowledge of spirits/drinks industry preferred. Certified Professional in one or more visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik or MSTR) Visualization skills in JavaScript, D3, Bokeh, or similar Experience developing visualizations with web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, D3, or similar) Coding skills in Python, R, or similar Experience with moderate (>100GB) to large-scale data sets (1PB+) preferred Experience with Agile and LEAN methodologies a plus Experience with source control tools such as GitHub and related development process Celebrating our inclusive and diverse culture is core to Diageo’s purpose of “celebrating life every day everywhere”.
