About the Role
We’re looking for two Project Engineers to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
Babcock Strategic Infrastructure provide maintenance to the Dockyard infrastructure, to enable Babcock to maintain the Navy fleet. A new ‘Major Infrastructure Projects’ (MIP) Business Unit is driving the development of said Infrastructure to support the future needs of our customers. One of the key scope elements within MIP is re-establishing a defuel capability for out of service submarines. This work comprises of a number of interrelated projects, one of which is the Submarine Defuel Delivery Project (SDDP).
As a Project Engineer you’ll assist the SDDP Project in the delivery of the project scope. Using your experience and knowledge of engineering works, preferably within a marine led environment you’ll support the planning and scheduling of project activities. You’ll ensure that project documentation is maintained to the required standards within the BMS; organise and monitor the delivery of distinct controllable tasks / activities; produce and upkeep of specific project tracking tools to maintain and report on project status; manage the review of sub-contract deliverables in support of delivery of contracted works. You’ll contribute to the process of capturing, analysing, implementing and validating requirements for small projects/work packages and project tasks.
What do I need to be able to do the role?
You’ll have a minimum of ONC or equivalent in an engineering related discipline, with relevant project experience. An APM PM qualification (or be working towards) could be advantageous.

Lastly, strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, writing and reporting) and and the ability to interact effectively with project teams and internal and external stakeholders are essential for this position.
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
