Department purpose:

Connections Media team are specialists in media planning & buying in newspapers, magazines and transactional media, as well as other publisher touchpoints across various platforms. We are responsible for putting together detailed recommendations and plans for our clients’ campaigns – recommending media titles and strategies to reach their target audience and objectives. We are also responsible for buying the media space at the most competitive rates, using different negotiation techniques to maximise our clients’ budgets. We have an interesting array of clients from a range of sectors including Fashion, E-commerce Subscriptions, Charity, Retail, Finance, Travel and Energy. The team work across both brand and direct response campaigns.

Position Title: Media Planner/Buyer

As a Media Planner/Buyer you will have past experience and specialist knowledge of all verticals in Print Media, covering channels such as Inserts, Press, Direct Mail and Door Drops. You will work alongside the Print Media Director to develop the Print Media team and proposition of the channel. You will work and support the development of Print Media executives in planning, buying and running Print Media advertising campaigns on behalf of our clients.

Reports to: Print Media Director

Reporting staff: Up to 3 members of staff


Main Accountabilities include the following:

  • Overall delivery specialist lead for a number of accounts.
  • The key contact (internally & externally) for maintaining top class client service
  • Organize and monitor workflow of the account team.
  • Manage team’s workloads and communicate with the team.
  • Able to lead and delegate to team members.
  • Have overall responsibility for account performance, growth and financials.
  • Lead plan creation for new business opportunities.
  • On ad hoc basis, produce reports, plans, etc for new business/pitches when required.
  • Prepare for and attend client and supplier meetings when required
  • Confidently discuss potential cross sell of other group channels and identify new opportunities.
  • Confidently collate information and update the wider team on client developments
  • Take responsibility for forecasting budgets for all clients and reporting.
  • Have ultimate responsibility for clients spend versus available credit and pre-payments and have a wider knowledge of need for credit/insurance.
  • Oversee media owner/supplier relationships - we pride ourselves on these as an agency, so the bar is set high!
  • You will do all the above while demonstrating the ability to be friendly, yet assertive, when working with other team members, suppliers and clients in order to complete work to our required standard.

Key Deliverables:

What will this role deliver in 6, 9, 12 months?

  • Responsible for managing multiple accounts.
  • Independently manage the clients you work on in terms of the day to day management
  • Work with client team to set targets & deliverables
  • Supporting Print Media Director to run an efficient team and the development of all Print Media Specialists
  • Resolving more complex issues/problems
  • Confidently collate information and update the wider team on client developments
  • Confidently discuss potential cross sell of other group channels, and identify new opportunities

Technical requirements:

Minimum requirements:

  • Microsoft Office Package with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel
  • Highly numerate with the ability to work diligently with numbers and data



  • Have an understanding of media terminology and concepts
  • Experience of media buying processes and client service
  • Experience in one or more print media channel – Door Drops, Inserts, Direct Mail and Press
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience in systems such as Ad Dynamix, MediaTel, TGI and Concept or similar accounting software
  • Management Experience
