Role overview Initially this role will have responsibility for the purchase ledger, stock, banking and cashflow. You will be assisted by two other team members and will provide guidance and inspiration in making these areas more efficient. Being a key member of a small team, you will also work closely with the Financial Controller and will develop in this role to become a well-rounded, commercially-minded accountant. Initiative, drive, team building and a degree of autonomy will be expected. In addition, there will be a wide variety of ad-hoc projects as the company, and particularly the Finance Department, goes through a period of change. Our client has recently implemented purchase ledger OCR software that transforms the way that invoices are processed and they are constantly looking for ways to automate and improve all areas of the department. You will assist the Financial Controller in business-partnering with other departments and will take initiatives on business-critical projects. Responsibilities To start with, your specific duties will be as detailed below but it should be emphasized that as you develop with the role, you will have the opportunity to expand your responsibilities and involvement into other areas of the department. * Oversee the daily management of the purchase ledger, refining the use of the OCR software and efficient processing of stock invoices including the resolution of issues and queries with suppliers as required * Processing payment runs, reconciling bank statements and managing daily cashflow. * Assist in month-end processes, prepare journals and ensure an understanding of the underlying data * Produce balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items * Perform a wide variety of ad-hoc tasks to support the finance department and the wider business * Provide cover for other team members as and when necessary Skills required You will have the energy, experience and drive to tackle a fresh challenge. A natural inquisitiveness, a passion for business, the ability to work as part of a team, the desire to develop your career and the ability to use initiative when needed are highly valued qualities. You will need sound accounting knowledge, strong analytical skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment. You will also possess strong IT skills with sound experience of accounting systems and Microsoft Office. A high standard of Excel is desirable.
