Network & Systems Engineer - London

Description

The role You will be working in a stand-alone capacity looking after our networks and systems however, you will be part of the technical team working closely with our onshore and offshore developers. You must have a passion for latest technologies and ensuring we are ahead of our game. The role is based in our London offices reporting to the Commercial Director. The main responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to: Daily checking the status of most critical services: Internet connection, the different platforms are processing calls, the App service, important websites are running smoothly. Setting up and responding to system alerts as a matter of urgency. Daily in-depth check of the network: checking logs, checking resources (CPU, Memory, Disk, Traffic, etc) on Firewalls, Switches, Routers etc. Providing technical support to the rest of the team. Live/production platform troubleshooting. Service and platform design/engineering: to improve the service, provide higher availability, reduce costs and so. Working closely with the developers to ensure our websites are secure. Working closely with the platform providers to troubleshoot any issues. Performing all tasks related to network and systems (both linux and windows), load balancers, monitoring, security, VPN, Buildings/offices/datacentre communications, Mitel Phone system etc. Providing realistic project timeframes. Occasionally providing support on the telco-systems when cover is needed. Providing out of hours support on a regular basis. About you A desire to work in a fast paced environment Strong analytical and organisational skills A Computer Science degree, or equivalent degree You must be an experienced SIP engineer You must have experience in load-balancing, service architectural design, virtualization, high availability and redundancy You must be able to rapidly troubleshoot You must understand and have experience in basic network administration, datacentre maintenance, Scripting, generic IT security Have experience in and be willing to work in and open-source environment Required technical skills Networks: SIP (Nextone/Genband, Digitalk) LAN IP switching and routing (Cisco, HP, Juniper) BGP routing Firewalls (SonicWall, iptables) Loadbalancers (Haproxy) VPN (strongswan, SonicWall) Authentication protocols (Diameter and Radius) Experience working in datacentres (racking, cabling) Systems: Nextone/Genband, Digitalk Linux (Debian) and Windows systems generic administration and maintenance KVM/Qemu virtualization Apache Tomcat administration Web Servers (nginx, Apache, Microsoft IIS) Databases (Maria/Percona/Galera, Microsoft SQLServer) Monitoring (Zabbix, SNMP) Scripting (Bash Shell, Perl, PHP) Continuous integration (Ansible, puppet) Desirable technical skills SIP (pjsip, kamailio and asterisk development) PBX (Mitel, Nortel BCM, Asterisk) Programming languages (C) postfix email server Ejabberd XMPP server Security skills (risk assessment, pentesting, forensics) Personal characteristics Professionalism and integrity to demonstrate a positive image of the company Goal oriented, solution focused, results driven, reliable and capable Innovative A structured and organised approach to work with, the ability to manage own workload to meet deadlines Ability to set realistic project timeframes Proactive approach with tenacity and a 'can do' attitude Team player, who encourages collaboration, welcomes challenges to achieve greater results Actively contribute to organisational objectives Flexible
