Assistant Development Chef

Description

Overview The Assistant Development Chef is a key part of the UK and Ireland regional culinary team, reporting through to the Head Chef. This role is also a critical partner for the regional product developers. The main scope of the role is kitchen management for the LWST site, recipe development for the Birds Eye portfolio and product cook ups/showcases as required. Responsibilities Manage the on-site R&D kitchen (and Consumer facility where appropriate) - ensure the facility is well maintained, all samples and ingredients are within date and all appropriate food regulations are adhered to. Ensure the environment is a safe place to work Prepare products in a safe manor for on-site tastings. Receive samples for product tastings from other sites Understand the basics of sensory testing - instill discipline on product sampling (number of samples / blind assessments / rotation etc) Have a passion for food and represent the Company externally when required (e.g., key sell-ins) Validate cooking instructions for product launches and keep up to date existing products and highlight issues Monitor local competitor activity in our core areas and provide summary to chefs and Product Development Teams Assist the Country Chef, Regional Chef or Head Chef with development sample preparation Assist/run shelf life testing procedures Assist the Country Chef, Regional Chef or Head Chef with digital content production Where appropriate support local Consumer groups - provide culinary support (e.g., sample preparation) Cater for board events and innovation lunches when agreed by country chef, regional chef or head chef. Support other large events on-site when required and agreed by Line Manager, site lead or Head of Category Kitchen facilities and (where relevant) Consumer connects facilities are both well-maintained and safe environments to work and handle food. All local food handling and safety regulations adhered to Product tastings conducted in a professional manner allowing meaningful conclusions for key product decisions Drive brand equity by representing the Company in terms of food quality and food culture internally and externally Exec and innovation lunches conducted professionally showing our products in the best light Qualifications Essential Recognised food hygiene and health and safety qualifications Proficient in Local Language FMCG experience Culinary experience Facilities management Culinary skills - able to present products at their best Sensory testing understanding (basic) Basic food hygiene and health and safety knowledge Good communication skills, able to influence Building knowledge to win Delivering our portfolio - Assessing the competitive landscape - carry out competitive benchmarking of products for taste and claims Teamwork - Promoting strong Team building and networking at site level Desirable Higher level food hygiene and health and safety qualifications Culinary qualification Certificate in Consumer moderation Basic sensory science certificate Experience in Consumer facilitation
