We are looking to recruit a Senior Social Worker or Mental Health Social Worker to join a well-established Community Forensic Mental Health Team. Our service involves working with adults with mental health problems and a history of offending behaviour / contact with criminal justice services. The role would be ideal for anyone seeking challenging and fulfilling casework

The role

The Lewisham Community Forensic Team is an integrated service consisting of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers and Psychologists. This is a borough-wide service and is a part of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).

The role of the Senior Social Worker involves providing a social work service / Care Coordination to adults with mental illness as part of a multi-disciplinary assessment and care management service. Specific tasks may include:

o Liaising with families, victims and carers, criminal justice systems including courts, probation services, Ministry of Justice and offender management services
o Contributing expertise to reviews in High and Medium Secure establishments
o Writing social supervisors reports for conditionally restricted patients
o Addressing the needs and promoting the rights of mentally disordered offenders; providing direct supervision for mentally disordered offenders as well general case management / care co-ordination
o Undertaking detailed clinical risk assessments for forensic service users and advise on effective risk management to colleagues in general adult mental health teams
o Contributing to the development of the forensic service
o Preparing social circumstances reports for Mental Health Tribunals
o Co-ordinating the care of service users who are subject to the Care Programme Approach and cited as 'challenging', 'complex' and 'difficult to engage'
o Contributing to Safeguarding processes and procedures / undertaking safeguarding enquiries
o Completing specialist housing and placement referrals, and providing social and practical support
o Undertaking duty work and assessing the suitability of referrals to the service

As an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) you will be required to undertake assessments under the Mental Health Act, 1983 (amended 2007) and to contribute to the borough-wide AMHP rota.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to complement our existing team, and the right applicant would need to demonstrate the following skill set
• Statutory mental health experience, as you will be required to work with service users with mental health needs
• A working understanding of issues relating to Safeguarding and experience of Safeguarding Enquiry processes
• A sound working knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory legislation
• Experience of preparing and presenting social circumstances reports to Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers Hearings
• Experience of the Care Coordination role
