We are currently recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a Special School with a passionate team and a unique approach to education and training. This school, based in Waltham Forest, works hard to provide students with opportunities to turn their lives around.
The only school of its kind in Waltham Forest, the school provides individualised support to the 65 students attending the school. Each student requires support with Social, Emotional, and/or Mental Health issues (SEMH). Pupils are aged between 10-18 years old and in addition to their behavioural needs, may have a range of further complex and profound needs.
If you are looking to work at a school that celebrates difference, challenges staff and pupils to grow and maintains high expectations, apply now. This challenging role comes with exceptional rewards for those who are genuinely passionate about supporting some of the most vulnerable youth in society.
Students attending this school exhibit very challenging behaviour and have found it difficult to cope in mainstream settings, often transitioning to the school from other schools in Waltham Forest and surrounding boroughs. Often pupils will have fallen behind their peers academically due to their early schooling and learning being severely disrupted and fragmented. This chaotic start to schooling can often result in self-esteem issues and anti-social behaviour.
The SEMH Teaching Assistant will work alongside teaching staff to teach students to take responsibility for their behaviour and its consequences. In line with the school's values of tolerance and respect, pupils learn to own their mistakes and seek to make amends. The school environment is well structured with clear rules, expectations and consequences for behaviour.
There is also a strong focus on building positive relationships. During their time at the school, pupils are supported to develop their academic and personal skills, giving them the confidence needed to be responsible adults who have jobs and happy relationships.
This SEMH Teaching Assistant role provides fantastic opportunities to gain hands on experience for aspiring Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, Social Workers, Counsellors and Psychologists.
