Consultant Histopathologist

Applications are invited for a Consultant Histopathologist. The successful applicant will join a small, well regarded team comprising of four consultants based at North Devon District Hospital.

The hospital offers a general histopathology and cytology service across most specialties. There is a move towards subspecialised reporting and candidates are encouraged to get in touch for an informal discussion on how their interest can be accommodated locally or across our network.

We have a high performing UKAS accredited laboratory which is well staffed with a motivated workforce. There is a same day immunocytochemistry service and the department meets all key performance targets. Currently we are working with partners across our network to implement digital pathology which will provide opportunities for collaborative working, flexibility and career development.

A balanced workload and excellent work life balance is something we strive for. The department reports clinically urgent specimens in a timely way to meet the needs of the patient, but we also ensure our histopathologists have a day a week which they do not take clinical work, for SPA activity and to clear difficult cases.

The hospital is part of Northern Devon Healthcare Trust which provides integrated acute and community services across the region. The Trust is consistently ranked highly for staff engagement and satisfaction and is based in beautiful Devon.

We would welcome an informal discussion with applicants, who can contact Dr Andy Bull, [email protected] or Dr Jason Davies, [email protected] (Consultant Histopathologists) on 01271 349197 or Mr Lee Luscombe (Pathology Service Manager) on 01271 311754, [email protected]

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:
  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples' independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient's stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
