Purpose of Position

As Part of the Health & Safety Environmental (HSE) team, promote a best practice culture within the organisation, by supporting all BSI departments and third parties visiting the Loughborough site and to ensure continual HSE improvements to ensure Aims, Objectives and Intended Outcomes are achieved.

You will play a pivotal role responsible for maintaining the local Health, Safety and Environmental Management System in line with Company Policy, ensuring compliance with relevant authority bodies and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Management of the implemented Health, Safety and Environmental management system, including solid knowledge of BMS policy and support documents, acting as a reference point for staff.
  • Local site representative to offer technical and compliance guidance and support to the testing environment, Lab support team and Office staff.
  • Manage and Monitor near miss, incident and accident reporting programmes and support with associated investigations and develop monthly reports
  • Responsible for the delivery of the compliance action plan, a diarises program of compliance inspections, audits and activity carried out by internal team and third-party subject matter experts. 
  • Responsible for the health and safety corrective action log, ensuring observation and recommendation are reviewed and closed out within the time prescribed.
  • Prepare and manage the HSE Committee program and other forums such as first aid, fire and Wellbeing & adverse event teams.
  • Responsible for the continuous and varied communication methods within the business including notice boards, monthly safety topics, tool box talks and town hall presentations.
  • Support the project delivery team with regards to new equipment install and introduction into the lab environment.    
  • Manage training program for all local staff.
  • Supporting the UK Operations HSE Manager in monitoring performance and the development of HSE strategies and plans

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • NEBOSH Certificate Level or equivalent ideally Diploma or NVQ 5
  • Higher level qualification in Environmental Management
  • Professional Body Membership IOSH, IIRSM, CIEH or equivalent
  • Experience of managing and implementing 45001 and 14001 systems
  • Experience in writing task specific risk assessments
  • Experience in accident and incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Strong presentation skills

Desirable

  • Good knowledge of Machinery Safety, PUWER, DSEAR, Legionella, LEV systems, Fire regulations, Noise & COSHH
  • Testing / Scientific Laboratory background advantageous
