Clinical Practitioner - Health Based Place of Safety

Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust's Health Based Place of Safety (HBPoS) opened in January 2020 and is consistently receiving excellent and positive feedback from both service users and the police. This nurse led service is a dedicated unit for up to 4 service users in acute mental health crisis to be safely detained and cared for under Sections 136/135 of the Mental Health Act. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 5 Nurse to work in this flag ship service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop their skills in mental health assessments, risk assessment and risk management. The role will also support the development of liaison skills and a collaborative working approach due to frequent contact with the Police, AMHP Service and the London Ambulance Service. The role will include the initial triage process e.g. speaking to the police and obtaining collateral information, conducting core assessments, providing various nursing interventions such as de- escalation and least restrictive practice, PMVA interventions, rapid tranquilization and physical health monitoring. The successful candidate will also be involved in making referrals to the AMHP service, senior speciality doctors, sourcing of beds for service users who require admission and developing crisis plans. The role can be demanding at times and the successful candidate must be able to work under pressure and as a team player in supporting both the band 6 clinical nurse specialists with the workload and supervising junior colleagues. The successful candidate will be supported with regular supervision and team reflective practice. There are personal development opportunities within the team to progress to band 6 and training opportunities to complete the nurse assessor course.
